Disaster Overview : The cholera outbreak in Haiti began in October 2010 and lasted until 2017. As of November 30, 2014, there were 719,377 suspected cases and 8,767 deaths. Despite efforts to control the outbreak, the persistence of cholera was mainly due to inadequate access to clean water and sanitation facilities. Structural issues like weak water and health systems allowed cholera and other waterborne diseases to continue to affect the population.
