Disaster Overview : On April 23, 2022, the Tanzanian government reported the outbreak of cholera in the Kigoma and Katavi regions, specifically in Uvinza DC and Tanganyika DC. By late June, the outbreak had spread along the shores of Lake Tanganyika, affecting primarily fishing villages with poor sanitation infrastructure. A total of 211 cases and six deaths were reported, with a case fatality rate of 2.9%, which is above the acceptable rate for an outbreak under control. Authorities and organizations like the Tanzanian Red Cross and UNICEF have been actively responding through various measures.
