Disaster Overview : A cholera outbreak commenced in Mozambique on December 25, 2014, and was officially declared on January 27, 2015. The outbreak worsened due to severe flooding in early January 2015. By April 8, 2015, a total of 7,780 cholera cases and 59 deaths were reported in Mozambique. Malawi noted the first confirmed cholera case on February 13, 2015, with escalating numbers reaching 329 cases by April 8. Tete and Zambezia provinces in Mozambique and the districts of Chikwawa and Nsanje in Malawi were the most affected areas.
