In early April 2014, heavy rainfall resulting from a tropical depression, later classified as Tropical Cyclone Ita, triggered severe flash floods in the Solomon Islands. The flooding catastrophically impacted the capital Honiara after the Mataniko River burst its banks on April 3, 2014.
