Disaster Overview : In early April 2014, heavy rainfall resulting from a tropical depression, later classified as Tropical Cyclone Ita, triggered severe flash floods in the Solomon Islands. The flooding catastrophically impacted the capital Honiara after the Mataniko River burst its banks on April 3, 2014. The disaster resulted in 22 fatalities and affected over 50,000 individuals, causing widespread damage to infrastructure and homes.
