Disaster Overview : On February 6, 2013, an 8.0 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of the Santa Cruz Islands in the southeast Solomon Islands archipelago. This resulted in a tsunami with waves reaching up to 1 meter, causing widespread devastation in Temotu Province and Honiara. The disaster resulted in the deaths of 10 people, while almost 600 houses were destroyed, affecting over 3,300 residents.
