Disaster Overview : Since August 2013, Malakal County in South Sudan's Upper Nile State has reported a measles outbreak, with an initial 43 suspected cases. The Upper Nile State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with WHO, initiated a mass vaccination campaign targeting over 31,300 children. Due to ongoing violence since December 2013, the outbreak spread rapidly, resulting in 522 suspected cases and 77 deaths by February 2014. By the end of July 2014, the outbreak expanded to nine states, culminating in 2,054 suspected cases.
