Disaster Overview : In the first half of 2011, the Maldives experienced a severe dengue outbreak with 1,289 reported cases. This marked a significant increase in incidence compared to the same period in the past two years. The outbreak was reported by the Centre for Community Health and Disease Control (CCHDC) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in a country with a population of 309,000.
