Disaster Overview : On November 17, 2008, a powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck Gorontalo Province on Sulawesi Island, Indonesia. The earthquake resulted in the deaths of six people and injuries to 77 others. The hardest-hit area was Buol Regency in central Sulawesi, where 25 villages were seriously affected. Approximately 15,000 people were displaced, and 700 homes were destroyed.
