Disaster Overview : Starting in late May 2013, Nicaragua's Región Autónoma Atlántico Norte (RAAN) and Región Autónoma Atlántico Sur (RAAS) experienced severe flooding due to tropical storms and heavy rains. The flooding continued through late July, affecting thousands of people, damaging homes, infrastructure, and extensive cropland. By October, 30 fatalities had been reported, and the disaster had impacted over 12,000 individuals.
