Disaster Overview : On April 11, 2014, a flash flood triggered by a dam burst wreaked havoc in Kazakhstan's northern Karaganda region. The deluge, which occurred on March 31, led to the deaths of five people and injured nine others. The village of Kokpekty was severely affected, with up to 354 houses flooded and approximately 400 residents evacuated as water levels surged to heights of 1.5-1.8 meters. The floodwaters receded within a few days, but the impact on the community was significant.
