Disaster Overview : In June 2017, the Nigerian Ministry of Health reported an outbreak of hepatitis E in the north-east region. Initially detected in Damasak, the outbreak has since spread across several local government areas (LGAs). The humanitarian crisis, insecurity, and poor access to safe water have exacerbated the situation. As of late 2017, over 1,300 cases and 8 deaths were reported, with Ngala, Mobbar, and Monguno being the most affected areas.
