Disaster Overview : On August 14, 2016, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck the department of Arequipa in Peru, causing widespread destruction and loss of life. The quake left nine people dead and 40 injured, significantly impacting the province of Caylloma. Approximately 1,564 families were affected, with hundreds of homes rendered uninhabitable or completely collapsed. In response, national and regional authorities initiated emergency assistance, and a 60-day state of emergency was declared for seven districts in the region.
