Disaster Overview : In May 2024, Honduras declared a national emergency due to a significant dengue outbreak. The situation has been escalating since February, with an epidemiological alert issued by the Secretariat of Health (SESAL). By March, the situation had reached epidemic levels. Despite efforts to control the spread, including an extended alert in May, the number of cases and fatalities continued to rise aggressively. Up until epidemiological week (EW) 21 of 2024, a total of 25,859 dengue cases were reported, marking a 436% increase compared to the same period in 2023, and 199% compared to the five-year average.
