Disaster Overview : Hurricane Alex was the first hurricane of the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season. It originated in the Caribbean Sea before moving westward and making landfall near northern Belize City. Initially categorized as a Tropical Storm on June 26th, Alex briefly weakened to a Tropical Depression on June 27th, only to regain strength by June 29th when it transformed into a Category 2 hurricane over the Gulf of Mexico. The hurricane impacted multiple countries, including Honduras, Nicaragua, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Mexico.
