Disaster Overview : From early November to mid-December 2010, Panama suffered from an onslaught of unusually heavy rains and resultant floods. These extreme weather events affected eight provinces, including the areas of Bayano and Yaviza in Darién province, where some towns remained submerged for up to 25 days. The Panamanian government declared a state of national emergency on December 9 to better coordinate relief efforts.
