Disaster Overview : Tropical Cyclone Haruna struck the south-west coast of Madagascar on February 22, 2013, as a powerful category 2 storm. The cyclone had hovered over the Mozambique Channel for seven days prior, causing excessive rainfall along Madagascar's western coast. The districts of Morombe and Taolagnaro experienced more than twice their normal rainfall, leading to severe flooding. By early March, the cyclone had resulted in 26 deaths and had affected over 40,000 people, with around 2,000 individuals still displaced.
