Disaster Overview : In 2013, Lao PDR experienced a severe dengue outbreak that saw a dramatic increase in cases compared to previous years. By August, the number of dengue infections had soared to nearly 35,000, with 81 fatalities. The outbreak prompted an emergency response from international organizations, including a significant fund allocation from the Central Emergency Response Fund to combat the spread of the disease. By November, while weekly trends showed a decrease in new cases, the total number of reported cases had reached 43,620, with 95 deaths.
