Disaster Overview : Guinea experienced a significant measles outbreak in early 2014, which surpassed the epidemic threshold in several regions. The outbreak followed a periodic trend with the last severe instance occurring in 2009. Initially, 143 suspected cases were reported, and 38 were confirmed positive. By the end of March, the number of reported cases had surged to 4,689, resulting in 11 deaths. Efforts to contain the outbreak included a massive emergency vaccination campaign aimed at immunizing more than 1.7 million children across the country.
