Disaster Overview : Heavy rains that began on May 21, 2006, led to severe flash floods and landslides across five provinces in northern Thailand: Nan, Phrae, Lamphang, Uttaradit, and Sukhothai. By June 7, the devastating floods had claimed 83 lives, left more than 340,000 people affected, and resulted in the destruction of nearly 700 homes. The damage assessment by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) estimated financial losses at over THB 308 million, excluding the loss of villagers' properties and belongings.
