Disaster Overview : In May 1986, Cyclone Namu ravaged the Solomon Islands, marking the worst storm in five years. With wind speeds between 90 and 120 knots, it caused extensive flooding and severe wind damage, notably impacting Malaita, Guadalcanal, Makira, Rennel, and Bellona islands. Malaita, the most populous island with 65,000 residents, suffered the gravest consequences.
