Disaster Overview : On December 7, 2016, a powerful earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale struck the Pidie Jaya district in Aceh province on Sumatra Island, Indonesia. The quake occurred at around 05:00 local time, with its epicenter located 17 kilometers northeast of Pidie Jaya and a depth of 10 kilometers. The seismic event resulted in significant casualties and widespread damage to buildings and infrastructure.
