Disaster Overview : In August 2015, Papua New Guinea was struck by a severe El Nino event, leading to extended periods of drought and frost across the country. This event was projected to last for 8–10 months, leading to a significant reduction in rainfall. It was anticipated to be the most severe drought since the 1997/98 event. The National Disaster Centre estimated that 2 million people were affected, and Chimbu Province reported 24 deaths due to prolonged drought conditions. Relief efforts were conducted by both national authorities and international organizations.
