Disaster Overview : In early January 2012, Brazil experienced extreme weather events including landslides, floods, and mudslides. These disasters resulted in the deaths of 19 people and the destruction of at least 9 homes in the town of Sapucaia. Subsequent severe floods in February affected more than 130,000 people in the state of Acre, and in April, a state of emergency was declared in Amazonas due to flooding in Manaus.
