Disaster Overview : During the rainy season between September and October 2012, floods and windstorms wreaked havoc in The Gambia, affecting nearly 34,000 people. Approximately 20% of those affected, around 7,745 individuals, were displaced, and 13 people lost their lives due to drowning or collapsed structures. As the rainy season ended, no additional communities were impacted by flooding. By November, the floodwaters had begun to recede, and the majority of displaced people were working to rebuild their homes and return.
