Disaster Overview : In October 2014, heavy rains struck south-central Somalia and the upper Shabelle basin near the Somali-Ethiopian border, resulting in severe flooding along both the Shabelle and Juba Rivers. Beledweyne in the Hiraan region and parts of the Middle Shabelle region suffered the most, with significant river breakages. Other affected areas included Dolo in the Gedo region, Jilib, and Jamame in Lower Juba, as well as Xudur in Bakool region. Due to these floods, approximately 2,500 people in Beledweyne were displaced and required urgent humanitarian aid.
