Disaster Overview : On the night of August 15-16, 2017, a catastrophic landslide struck the fishing village of Tara in Ituri Province, DR Congo. The disaster resulted in 174 people presumed dead, with 33 bodies recovered so far. The landslide caused extensive damage, destroying an estimated 70 houses and leaving 57 survivors and 10 injured individuals receiving care in hospitals. Around 280 children have been orphaned as a result of this tragedy. National and provincial authorities have been working on response and recovery plans to aid the affected population.
