Disaster Overview : In April 2018, severe flash floods ravaged numerous regions in Somalia, including Hirshabelle, South West, Jubaland, and the Banadir region. Over 427,000 people were affected, with heavy rains displacing nearly 175,000 individuals. The flooding worsened conditions in overcrowded Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) settlements, particularly in low-lying areas, and more than 28,200 people were displaced in Jubaland alone. The Shabelle River's bursting banks and resulting inundations further exacerbated the situation, impacting farms, shelters, and entire communities.
