Disaster Overview : In late May 2019, the southwestern region of Libya experienced a wave of severe rainfall and thunderstorms, culminating in devastating floods. The municipality of Ghat and its surrounding areas saw water levels rise between 0.5 to 2 meters. The floods have affected over 20,000 people and displaced approximately 2,500 individuals to nearby regions. Significant damage to infrastructure, farmland, and essential services such as hospitals has been reported. Authorities have activated an Emergency Cell to manage the crisis.
