Disaster Overview : In May 1994, a severe tropical cyclone with winds reaching 210 km per hour hit the coastal regions of Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, and Rakhine State, Myanmar. The cyclone caused extensive damage to both countries, particularly in the districts of Cox's Bazar and Bandarban in Bangladesh and Rakhine State in Myanmar. Despite early warnings and the evacuation of approximately 450,000 people, the cyclone resulted in numerous casualties and significant destruction in terms of infrastructure and agriculture.
