Disaster Overview : On May 1, 1994, heavy rainstorms struck several municipalities and prefectures in Fujian province, South China, triggering substantial flooding. The storm affected 44 counties, 310 villages and townships, and an estimated 1.98 million people. It resulted in 86 deaths, caused severe injuries to 579 individuals, and left 15 people missing. Additionally, the storm destroyed 65,000 housing units and severely damaged 293,000 more, while also affecting 113,000 hectares of crops.
