Disaster Overview : In October 2006, the Philippines was struck by Super Typhoon Cimaron, locally known as Paeng. Originating as a low-pressure system in the east Bicol Region, it intensified into a category 5 typhoon with maximum sustained winds of 195 kph and gusts up to 230 kph. The typhoon made landfall over the southern Isabela province, causing widespread devastation across several provinces.
