Disaster Overview : In November 2000, the eastern districts of Ampara and Batticaloa in Sri Lanka experienced severe flooding due to intense rainfall. From 18-19 November, Ampara and Batticaloa received 105 mm of rain, followed by an additional 238 mm on 20 November. The heavy rains led to widespread flooding, affecting a large portion of the population in these areas.
