Disaster Overview : On May 19, 1997, a severe tropical cyclone named One Bravo intensified in the Bay of Bengal and struck the southeastern coast of Bangladesh, specifically between Chittagong and Teknaf. The cyclone brought wind speeds up to 250 km/h, causing widespread damage and flooding.
