Disaster Overview : In late August 2002, Typhoon Rusa wreaked havoc on the Korean Peninsula, affecting both the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). The typhoon triggered torrential rains, leading to severe flooding and landslides, particularly in the eastern and southern parts of South Korea and in Kangwon Province in North Korea. The aftermath saw a significant loss of life, extensive property damage, and widespread displacement of the population.
