Disaster Overview : In 1984, a cholera epidemic broke out in Mali, rapidly spreading across regions including Koulikoro and the Niger-Burkina Faso borders. The epidemic saw its peak around October and November of 1984, with WHO and the Ministry of Health announcing that the worst was over by early November. Despite continued efforts to control the spread, the epidemic worsened again in August 1985, largely due to the rainy season.
