Disaster Overview : Cyclone Bondo made landfall on the north-western coast of Madagascar on December 25, 2006, striking the small town of Mariarano, 50 km north-east of Mahajanga, with strong winds reaching 150 km/h and heavy rainfall. The storm subsequently moved south-south-west across western Madagascar, weakening in intensity as it progressed.
