Disaster Overview : Typhoon Gordon, the most powerful storm to hit the northern Philippines island of Luzon in 1989, struck on July 15th. It caused significant floods and landslides across the northern and central regions, leading to the washout of a bridge in Ilocos Norte and the collapse of a dike in La Union Province, which flooded three villages. The storm resulted in extensive infrastructural damage and severely impacted the local population.
