Disaster Overview : On 24 March 1984, a serious fire broke out in Mandalay, Myanmar, causing extensive damage and displacing thousands. The United Nations Disaster Relief Office (UNDRO) has been monitoring the situation closely. The fire led to the destruction of over 2,700 houses, leaving 23,250 people homeless. Additionally, government offices, commercial areas, schools, stores, medical centers, and cinemas were also destroyed, resulting in an estimated property loss of $33 million.
