Disaster Overview : In the summer of 2010, Russia experienced an unusual and prolonged heatwave, with temperatures soaring to 40°C in the shade. This extreme weather led to approximately 30,000 wildfires across more than 20 regions. The fires consumed several thousand hectares of land, resulting in the destruction of around 2,200 houses, mostly in rural settlements spread across European Russia, the Ural Mountains, and West Siberia. The disaster claimed over 50 lives and displaced thousands of people, severely impacting their homes and livelihoods.
