Disaster Overview : In 2012, India faced severe flooding and storms that ravaged different parts of the country. From June onwards, heavy monsoon rains caused substantial flooding across Assam, affecting 22 districts severely and impacting approximately 2.2 million people with around 120 lives lost. Later in August, incessant rains in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu led to landslides, cloud bursts, and flash floods, resulting in 34 deaths and making hundreds homeless. The year ended with Tropical Storm Nilam hitting southern India, displacing over 150,000 people and claiming 22 lives.
