Disaster Overview : In November 2016, heavy rains led to severe flooding and landslides across multiple provinces in the Dominican Republic. The situation escalated on November 11, prompting an Emergency Declaration for several provinces, including Puerto Plata, La Vega, Espaillat, and María Trinidad Sánchez. The floods affected approximately 20,135 people, who were displaced and sought shelter within their communities or in official centers. The floods also caused significant property damage and isolated numerous communities.
