Disaster Overview : In the early months of 2017, Afghanistan faced a series of natural disasters including heavy snowfall, avalanches, and floods that resulted in significant loss of life and property. Starting on January 25, severe weather conditions claimed the lives of 27 children in a remote northern district. The situation escalated between February 4-7 when numerous avalanches, snowfall, and rain-related incidents were reported across the country, affecting 22 out of 34 provinces. Further avalanches and flash floods in mid-February exacerbated the situation, resulting in a total of 194 deaths and 90 injuries. Over 6,752 families were affected, with significant damage to homes, arable land, and livelihoods.
