Disaster Overview : In October 2012, Lesotho faced a severe food insecurity crisis affecting 725,215 people. Excessive rainfall between May and August led to residual moisture that negatively impacted crop yields. As a result, the combined production of cereals was the lowest in ten years, leading to a significant food crisis. The government declared a food crisis in August 2012 and called for international assistance, including a $38.5 million flash appeal.
