Disaster Overview : At the end of November 2012, heavy precipitation in Panama resulted in severe floods and landslides in the Colón and Panama provinces. The disaster disrupted livelihoods and communications, prompting the government to declare a state of emergency. Tragically, five people lost their lives, and 6,500 families were affected. Reports indicated that 2,570 houses suffered damage.
