Disaster Overview : Tropical Cyclone Emnati formed over the central Indian Ocean on 16 February 2022 and moved west-southwest towards Madagascar. By 18 February, it was located north of Rodrigues Island, Mauritius, with sustained winds of 106 km/h. It passed by Mauritius and La Reunion and was forecast to make landfall in Madagascar on 22 February. This would be the fifth extreme weather event to hit Madagascar within a month, significantly impacting regions already affected by previous storms.
