Disaster Overview : Typhoon Melor, which struck the Philippines in December 2015, made initial landfall on Batag Island in Northern Samar. The storm tracked across southern Luzon, making multiple landfalls before exiting to the sea. At its peak, Melor had winds reaching 150 kph and gusts up to 185 kph, and it brought heavy rainfall over a 300 km diameter. The typhoon caused extensive damage and led to widespread evacuations.
