Disaster Overview : On June 26, 2019, the Ulawun volcano in East New Britain, Papua New Guinea, erupted, emitting ash plumes up to 20,000 meters. The eruption affected approximately 16,000 people in both East and West New Britain, with about 6,800 people evacuated to care centers. The volcanic activity is subsiding, and authorities are assessing the impacted areas while the alert level is being lowered.
