Disaster Overview : In April 2020, Kenya experienced intense flooding and landslides due to heavy rains that had intensified over a three-week period. The overflowing Nzoia river displaced at least 40,000 people over the weekend of May 2. Since the beginning of the 'long rains' season in early March, more than 233,000 people have been affected, including over 116,000 who have been displaced. Flooding and landslides have been reported across more than three quarters of Kenya’s counties, with major impacts in the Rift Valley and central and coastal regions.
