Disaster Overview : Tropical Cyclone Eloise formed in the south-west Indian Ocean on January 14, 2021, and made its way towards Madagascar, impacting the country's northeast regions by January 20. After wreaking havoc in Madagascar, where over 1,000 people were affected, the cyclone continued to intensify in the Mozambique Channel. By January 23, it made landfall in central Mozambique with winds reaching 140 km/h, causing severe flooding and damage in regions like Sofala. The weather system continued moving westward, affecting southern Zimbabwe and other areas.
