Disaster Overview : Since July 22, 2021, heavy rainfall has impacted northern and eastern regions of Costa Rica, particularly Heredia, Cartago, and Limon Provinces. The downpours have caused river overflows, particularly in the Siquirres and Sarapiquí Rivers, leading to widespread flooding. As of July 27, the floods resulted in 2 fatalities, 2 missing persons, and the evacuation of 3,268 individuals to emergency shelters across several cantons. A red alert has been issued as more heavy rainfall is forecasted for the central cantons.
